Anita, 2024

A beaded portrait of a Métis drag queen with blonde hair wearing a sparkly black top in front of a pink backdrop. The portrait is resting on pink hide.

Anita, 2024. Seed beads, nylon thread, wire guardians. 10.5 x 5 inches.

This piece is an homage to a legendary Winnipeg drag artist who has supported our city’s queer community for decades, Anita Stallion.

It is handwoven using ladder stitch and flat herringbone stitch. I used about 25 different shades of size 11 Miyuki beads to create this piece.

This is the third in my Pantheon series, which pays homage to the Métis women who have defined my life.
